HistoryLibrairie Allot Ltd was created in 1947 by Mr. Jean Allot. It started to operate in a small shop in Curepipe Road and then moved to the Arcades Currimjee in Curepipe in the 60s. Since its opening the Librairie Allot has focused on selling general literature such as paperbacks, dictionaries and children books. As from 1974, it started offering also a variety of French magazines and newspapers. Gradually, English magazines and pocket books were introduced in the bookshop as well as books and guides on Mauritius in order to reach the tourists, who were growing steadily in number. There were very few bookshops operating then and clients included people from all parts of the island. In the late 80s, with the flourishing of supermarkets and hypermarkets across the island, reading materials started to be available at the doorsteps of the clients. However these new outlets for books and magazines did not provide service and guidance to clients; their situation has remained unchanged since. On the other hand, the Librairie Allot Ltd has focused its efforts, since its opening, on customer care and satisfaction in order to maintain its share of the market. Allot in RodriguesIn December 1992, another branch opened its doors in the Commercial Centre Happy World House in Port Louis and in 2004 the Librairie Allot decided to invest in Rodrigues; it now operates at Plaine Corail airport and also has a bookshop in Port Mathurin.During its almost 60 years of operation, the Librairie Allot has satisfied the needs of its growing customers because of its vast knowledge and experience in the book industry. In March every year selected employees go to the London Book Fair and the Salon du Livre in Paris in order to stay abreast with the recent developments in the publishing industry. The opportunity is seized to place orders of new titles and discuss trade terms. The Librairie forms part of the AILF (Association Internationale des Libraires Francophones); this association has given the opportunity to two of our employees to go to Madagascar last year on a training course which has been successful. The Librairie Allot Ltd, since its opening has always thrived to provide and maintain the best client service and a vast choice of books. |
